Bipartisan Congressional Delegation Visit to Yale-Myers Forest
Yale School of the Environment
A bipartisan congressional delegation led by Yale Forestry alumnus Rep. Bruce Westerman toured Yale-Myers Forest for a firsthand look at forest management, carbon science, and sustainable timber practices.
Members of the House Natural Resources Committee – including Reps. John Curtis, Doug LaMalfa, Val Hoyle, Ed Case, Pete Stauber, Mike Collins, and Mariannette Miller-Meeks – joined USDA Under Secretary Homer Wilkes and U.S. Forest Service Associate Deputy Chief Troy Heithecker for a day-long visit. The morning began at Kroon Hall with presentations on forest-focused carbon capture research, carbon dioxide removal pathways for U.S. forests, and the role of mass timber in sustainable design. The group then traveled to Yale-Myers Forest in Eastford, Connecticut, where faculty led field sessions on white pine shelterwood management, shade-tolerant softwood silviculture, oak regeneration challenges, and the impacts of invasive species. The visit offered legislators direct engagement with Yale researchers on the science behind forest policy.
