Yale-Myers Forest MOD 2025

MODs – Summer Orientations Modules – has a long history at YSE and has welcomed incoming students for decades.

The Yale-Myers MOD focuses on ecosystem management fundamentals, with students practicing tools and methods for collecting environmental information. The week centers on understanding the “ecosystem” concept – as both a conceptual and practical tool – and recognizing humans as historical and current parts of these systems. Students plan, collect, and analyze quantitative data while learning to evaluate its value, subjectivity, and biases. They explore how history, expert decision-making, and personal experience shape the collection and interpretation of evidence, and grapple with uncertainty when applying and scaling quantitative findings to manage ecosystems for economic, climate, and biodiversity goals.
