New Haven Urban MOD 2025

Yale School of the Environment

MODs – Summer Orientations Modules – has a long history at YSE and has welcomed incoming students for decades.

The New Haven MOD introduces students to each other, to the city that is their home for the next two years, and to the environmental problems facing its residents – human and other-than-human. They examine these problems from biophysical, hydrologic, legal, and social perspectives, exploring natural areas and neighborhoods across a three-day arc: From River to Ridge (Day 1), From Reservoir to Coast (Day 2), and From Degradation to Restoration (Day 3). Students learn through direct observation, conversations with community groups and professionals, and hands-on restoration work.
